La B non si capacita che questa annata di taccuini non significhi che ho un libro pronto.

The B can’t get over the fact that this year’s worth of notebooks doesn’t mean I have a book ready.

Adesso che so per esperienza che se ne può uscire vivi, meglio ricordarmi che è normale che un libro all’inizio sia tutto un pasticcio. Anzi, nulla si crea senza fare pasticci.

Now that I know for certain that in the end you get out of it alive, I’d better remind myself that a book in the beginning is always a mess. Indeed, nothing is created without a mess.

Le cose che mi fanno brillare gli occhi oggi non hanno corpo. Sono grandi come laghi, ma increate.

The things that make my eyes shine today are bodyless. They are as big as lakes, but uncreated.

Ho appena ricevuto la prima copia stampata del mio libro. Ha un così buon odore…..

I just got the first printed copy of my book. It smells sooooo good….

Ieri è stata una giornata grossa. Lavorare al libro al mattino, parlare con Patti Smith nel pomeriggio del suo legame sacro con Robert Mapplethorpe, e i miei di legami sacri la sera. Non ho avuto cuore di tirar fuori la macchina fotografica, così ho fatto uno scatto di quello che lei mi ha lasciato.

Yesterday was a big day. Working on the book in the morning, talking to Patti Smith in the afternoon about her sacred bond with Robert Mapplethorpe, my own sacred bonds in the night. I couldn’t find heart to use my camera, so I took one shot of what she has left me.

Come potete vedere, la B non si fa problemi a mostrare il suo disgusto quando lavoro alle bozze del libro. E’ rimasto poco tempo, e lui si trasforma in un gatto di pietra, peso 1 tonnellata circa, inamovibile nella sua silenziosa protesta ghandiana. Se sul tavolo ci sono 4 o 5 pile di fogli, lui sa esattamente qual’è quella che mi serve di più, e ci si siede sopra. Se cerco di cacciarlo, fa le fusa e si attacca con gli artigli ai post-it che spuntano dalle pagine.

As you can see, the B has no trouble showing his utter dislike for my working on the book proofs. While time is running out, he can turn into a stone cat, weighing about a ton, umoveable in silent Ghandi protest. If there’s 4 or 5 piles of paper on my table, he knows exactly which is the one I need most, and sits on that. If I try to shoo him away, he purrs and clutches the post-it notes sprouting from the pages.

Ondata di umidità. 600 note originali da correggere per il libro allo stramaledetto computer rovente. Leggendo nel pensiero alla B: troppo caldo, non si gioca = noia.

Ho letto da qualche parte che uno dei problemi della fotografia quotidiana è che a un certo punto finisci i posti. Quindi adesso mi inventerò qualcosa, non proprio un posto nuovo al giorno ma almeno qualche esplorazione. Intanto in questa foto c’è tutta la pace che sento in questi giorni.

I’ve read somewhere that one of the issues of daily photography is that at some stage you run out of places. Therefore I’m going to find someplace new, maybe not one each day but some exploration at least. In the meantime this photo portraits the utter peace I’m feeling.

Non proprio una Spada, ma l’ho comunque piantata nella Roccia. Una giornata abbastanza buona, nonostante la gola ancora in fiamme.

Not exactly a Sword, but I stuck it into the Stone anyway. Quite a good day, despite the throat still burning.
