Stamattina ho scoperto cosa fa tutte le mattine alle 6 il vecchino che abita di fronte a casa mia: sgrana il rosario davanti alla finestra. Naturalmente non me n’ero mai accorta perché non mi svegliavo mai così presto.  Di rosario mi ricordo solo quello di mia nonna, l’unico oggetto religioso che mi sia mai piaciuto.  C’è qualcosa di calmante, di musicale, nel rosario. Immagino che sia questo che facciamo, in questi giorni: ci dondoliamo, ci culliamo, ascoltiamo litanie. Grano per grano, li conterò tutti. Prenderò quell’aereo per New York domani, e tornerò più forte, spero con un po’ di foto da postarvi. Un grande abbraccio a tutti, e buon compleanno dolce B :)

This morning I found out what the tiny old man who lives opposite me does every day at 6 o’clock: he counts his prayers on rosary beads before the window. Obviously I never realized before because I’d never wake up so early. I only remember my grandma’s rosary, the one religious object I ever liked. There is something soothing, musical, in a rosary. I guess this is what we are doing presently: we swing, we rock ourselves, we listen to lithanies. Bead by bead, I’m going to count them all. I’ll take that flight to New York tomorrow, and I’ll come back stronger, hopefully with a few photos to post. A big hug to everyone, and happy birthday sweet B :)
