La bella e la bestia

Penso che durante l’estate non posterò le liste dei libri. Vedete, l’estate è il mio momento preferito dell’anno per leggere. Non ho pressioni a leggere per lavoro, né la fretta di mandar giù quanti più libri possibile. Posso prendermi tutto il tempo del mondo e cercare di ripulirmi dall’ansia di leggere 3 o 4 libri contemporaneamente. Ci vuole un bel po’ di fortuna, e una bella pigna di libri fra cui scegliere, ma il sollievo è impagabile. Così posterò solo qualche riga quando trovo qualcosa che ne valga la pena. E oggi ho appena finito di leggere un romanzo che mi ha assorbito completamente, un piacere assoluto. Si tratta di Proprio stanotte di Rebecca West, il seguito de La famiglia Aubrey. Una scrittura completamente liquida, personaggi e scene da capolavoro, una sorella perfetta per Virginia Woolf.

I think I won’t post book lists for the summer. You see, the summer is my favourite reading moment of the year. I have no pressures to read for work, nor to hurry swallowing as many books as I can take.  I can take all the time in the world and try to declutter myself from simultaneously reading 3 or 4 books. It takes a lot of luck, and a nice pile of books to browse, but the relief is priceless.  So I will just post a few lines whenever I find something worth. And today I just finished a novel that had me engrossed, a total pleasure. It’s This real night, Rebecca West’s sequel to The fountain overflows. A fully liquid writing, masterly characters and scenes, the perfect sister to Virginia Woolf.
