La bella e la bestia

Questo blog compie un anno oggi! E’ stato un anno di esperienze imprevedibili, nuovi amici, molta scrittura, molto amore, molto lutto, molto viaggiare, molta musica, tante fotografie. La B e io vogliamo ringraziare tutti coloro che hanno visitato La Bella e la Bestia in questi dodici mesi. Lui che è gatto e io che sono donna lo facciamo mostrandovi un po’ della gioia di essere entrambe le cose.

This blog is one year old today! It’s been one year of unexpected experiences, new friends, a lot of writing, a lot of loving, a lot of mourning, a lot of travelling, plenty of music and photographs. The B and I wish to thank all of you who visited Beauty and the Beast in the past 12 months. He as a cat and I as a woman thank you by showing you a bit of the joy of being both.

Buon decimo compleanno Spoonbill & Sugartown, la libreria più amorosa del mondo! Anch’io, come gli altri clienti, mi sono lasciata fotografare col mio ultimo acquisto, e mi sa che finirò nel loro libro. Lo so, lo so, in questi giorni sono un po’ latitante. A parte il buio, il freddo, la pioggia, le bollette da pagare (e come direbbe John Belushi, le cavallette), è che mi mancano le parole per descrivere lo stato d’animo che accompagna questi ultimi giorni di lavoro sul libro.  Un misto di euforia e di lutto, il terrore di quel che ne sarà, una solitudine mentale a cui non c’è rimedio, perché solo da soli si può scrivere e scrivendo si lotta con se stessi – non è una cosa che si riesca a condividere. Ma ci siamo quasi, e fra poco La Bella e la Bestia compie 1 anno!

Happy 1oth anniversary Spoonbill & Sugartown, the loveliest bookshop in the world! I too, like other customers, let myself be photographed with my latest purchase and will end up in their book.  I know, I know, I’ve been a bit in hiding these days. Apart from the darkness, the cold, the rain, the bills to pay (and like John Belushi would put it, locusts), it is just that I lack the words to describe the mood that came upon me in these last working days on my book. It’s a mixture of euphoria and mourning, the terror of what will become of it, a mind loneliness to which there is no remedy, because you can only write alone and writing is battling with yourself – not something you can share. But we’re almost there, and very soon Beauty and the Beast turns 1!!

Happy Halloween everyone, and happy birthday to my little sister!

B. compie 60 anni oggi – era stranamente saggio da giovane ed è straordinariamente giovane oggi. Mi fa specie pensare di aver ascoltato la sua musica per la maggior parte della mia vita, e per quasi metà della sua. Stavolta circolano voci che possa essere davvero l’ultimo tour con la E Street Band, per cui sono particolarmente felice di godermi due concerti al Giants Stadium, e di andarci con uno dei miei più cari amici. Aver passato tutto questo ultimo anno a faticare su un libro su quell’uomo rende questo momento ancora più significativo. Buon compleanno, signor B., lo sai che ti vogliamo un bene da pazzi.

B. turns 60 today – he was amazingly wise when very young and is amazingly young today. Funny to think that I’ve been listening to his music for the best part of my life, and almost half of his. This time there’s rumours it could be the last tour with the E Street Band, so I’m particularly happy to enjoy two shows at Giants Stadium, and I’m happy to make this trip with one of my best friends. Having spent the whole of this past year slaving away on a book about the man makes this moment all the more meaningful for me. Happy birthday, man, you know we love you crazy.

Oggi tutti i cani e  i gatti del vicinato erano fuori sulle soglie dei negozi a prendere il sole, la B sta cambiando il pelo per l’autunno ed è bellissimo, ci sono lunghi risvegli al mattino e lunghi caffè, feste di fine estate, si torna a cucinare, e a fare progetti per NY. Il Fotografo compie gli anni oggi, e R. si sposa domani, vi voglio bene ragazzi!  Buon fine settimana a tutti.

Today all cats and dogs in the neighboordhood were out on the thresholds basking inthe sun, the B is changing his fur for the cold season and looks amazing, there’s long wake-up mornings and coffees, end of summer parties, back to food cooking, and planning for NYC. Today is The Photographer’s birthday, and R. is getting married tomorrow, I love you guys!  Wish you all a great weekend.
