Come state tutti? E’ stata un po’ vacanza, qui, tempo per cene con amici e bambini e gatti sonnacchiosi, e ora si torna a lavorare. Ho letto un po’ (Home di Marylinne Robinson), e visto qualche film che mi ero persa (Burn after reading dei Coen, e Sogni e delitti di Woody Allen). Mettiamola così, c’è tempo per fare rock e c’è tempo di zuppa, e adesso è tempo di zuppa.

How are you guys? A little holiday here, time for dinner with friends and kids and napping cats, and now back to work. I have been reading (Home by Marylinne Robinson) and watching movies I had missed  (The Coens’ Burn after reading and Woody Allen’s Cassandra’s dream). Let’s put it this way, there’s a time for the rock gig and a time for soup, and now is the time for soup.

Buone notizie! Primo, pare che io non sia Jack Nicholson, e questo, vi assicuro, è un grande sollievo.

Secondo, dopo una bella dormita, credo che oggi sia la giornata più piena di gratitudine della mia vita. Non potrei essere più riconoscente neanche se mi avessero detto che ho tre vite da vivere. Il primo lettore (che sia benedetto) ha trovato il libro solido e appassionante, e ci vede dentro una scrittrice. La povera creatura adesso se ne va dall’ipotetico editore, incrociate le dita di mani e piedi se potete.

Siccome così festeggio anche l’uscita dal tunnel della scrittura e riscrittura, voglio buttarvi lì qualche cosina che potrebbe piacervi. Miglior blog che ho trovato da un po’ di tempo in qua, quello di Pia nella sua casa galleggiante ad Amsterdam, completo delle sue bellissime foto e di alcuni suoni che mi piacciono tantissimo. Sono riuscita a mettere un po’ di foto dell’ultimo viaggio a New York sul mio Flickr. Sto leggendo A week at the airport di Alain De Botton ed è un progetto molto interessante, e sto pensando alla futura Lista dei Libri, è un bel po’ che non la faccio perché stavo leggendo poco. Fine settimana dedicato agli amici che ho trascurato, e auguro lo stesso a voi :)

Good news! First, by the way it looks, I am not Jack Nicholson, and this, let me tell you, it’s a big relief.

Second, after a sound sleep, this is probably the most grateful day in my whole life. I couldn’t be more grateful even if they told me that I had three lives to live. The first reader – bless him – has found the book steady and moving, and he feels there’s a writer in there. The poor creature is now going to the prospective publisher, cross your fingers – hands and feet if you can.

Since I am also celebrating a liberation from the tunnel of writing and re-writing, I want to post a few things you might like. Best blog in a long while, Pia’s on the houseboat in Amsterdam, complete with her wonderful photos and a few soundbites I loved. I have finally managed to post a few pics from my latest trip to New York on my Flickr. I am currently reading Alain De Botton’s A week at the airport, very interesting project, and planning the future Book List, it’s been a while and I have not been reading much. The weekend is dedicated to the friends I have neglected, and I wish you all the same :)

La B non si è accorta che ho fatto la valigia. L’ho fatta di nascosto e poi l’ho chiusa nell’armadio. Lo so, è una bassezza, ma non conoscete la B come la conosco io.  In valigia non c’è quasi niente, ma c’è tutto quello che mi serve. Quindi sorge spontanea la domanda: cosa me ne faccio di tutto il resto quando non sono in viaggio? Non so se riuscirò a postare da NY, ma di sicuro vi racconto un po’ di cose quando torno, abbiate cura di voi :))

The B hasn’t realized I packed my suitcase. I did it in hiding and then locked it in the wardrobe. I know, I’m stooping low, but you don’t know the B as much as I do. There is almost nothing in my suitcase, but there is everything I need, therefore I wonder: what do I need all the rest for when I’m not travelling? No idea whether I will post from NYC or not, but sure I’ll tell you a lot when I’m back, take good care of yourselves :))

Ho giocato con la macchina fotografica ieri sera; ho risolto alcuni problemi che avevano bisogno di qualche aggiustamento, ho fatto qualche scoperta, e probabilmente ho trovato il mio modo per smangiucchiare un po’ di perfezione (quella della macchina, ovviamente). Un modo è la sovraesposizione. E’ più lontana dalla realtà ma decisamente più vicina al modo in cui io percepisco le cose. Oggi la macchina fotografica è come se fosse nuova, anche se sono convinta che poi sta tutto in cosa fotografiamo. Buon fine a settimana tutti.

Played with camera last night; solved a few problems which needed adjustments, made some discoveries in the process, probably found my way to nib away at perfection (the camera’s, that is). Overexposure is one way. It’s further from reality but definitely closer to the way I perceive things. Camera feels new again, though I’m still convinced that it’s all in what we see and photograph.
