La bella e la bestia

Ieri è stata una giornata grossa. Lavorare al libro al mattino, parlare con Patti Smith nel pomeriggio del suo legame sacro con Robert Mapplethorpe, e i miei di legami sacri la sera. Non ho avuto cuore di tirar fuori la macchina fotografica, così ho fatto uno scatto di quello che lei mi ha lasciato.

Yesterday was a big day. Working on the book in the morning, talking to Patti Smith in the afternoon about her sacred bond with Robert Mapplethorpe, my own sacred bonds in the night. I couldn’t find heart to use my camera, so I took one shot of what she has left me.

Guardate! E’ tornata! La macchina fotografica è di nuovo a casa, dopo 5 settimane in riparazione. E’ stato risolto anche il più minuscolo problema, è come nuova. Adesso posso innamorarmi di nuovo del bianco e nero, mi mancava tanto ed è perfetto per l’inverno. Con la pura gioia di maneggiare di nuovo la macchina, combinata con la tipica fortuna del principiante, ecco la prima foto del nuovo anno di questo blog. Quello che c’è in questa foto succede soltanto quando la B coglie perfettamente che dietro l’occhio dell’obbiettivo c’è il mio. Immaginatela accompagnata da un leggero cinguettio di gola. Oggi è anche il giorno in cui consegno la stesura finale del libro al mio primo lettore. Sono preparata a fare molte modifiche, ma spero tanto che sia convincente, perciò incrociate le dita. Per evitare di bloccarmi o deprimermi, ho riorganizzato la scrivania e gli scaffali con tutti i miei taccuini, pronta a tuffarmi in qualcosa di nuovo da scrivere. Voglio prendermi i mesi più freddi per capire cosa sento di dover fare, e poi mi dedicherò a un nuovo libro. Ho questa sensazione di dover scrivere della nostra città. Per quanto sia crudele e letale, non ha mai avuto tanto bisogno di noi come adesso.

Look! She’s back! The camera is home again, after 5 weeks in repairment. Even the tiniest problem has been solved, and it just feels like new. I am now allowed to fall  in love with black and white again, I missed it so much and it’s definitely the right setting for winter. With the sheer joy of handling it again, combined with the typical luck of the beginner, here is the first picture of the new year of this blog. This happens only when the B is clear that behind the eye of the camera there is my eye. It goes with a slight throat chirp. Today I’m also handing the final draft of the book to my first reader. I am prepared to make a lot of adjustments, I only hope it’s convincing, so cross fingers. To avoid getting stuck and depressed, I have rearranged my desk and shelves with all of my notebooks, ready to plunge into something new to write. I’m taking the coldest months to make up my mind what it is I really feel I have to do, and then I’ll tackle a new book. I have this feeling I have to write about my hometown. For as cruel and deadly as she is, she needs us more than ever.
