Pensavo che avrei preso questa mattinata politica con molta meno rabbia.

I thought I was going to take this political morning with a lot less rage.

Da antifascista nel midollo, non avrei mai, mai, mai pensato che potesse succedere… Ma da quando Fini ha cominciato a parlare, mi sento come se qualcuno avesse praticato un forellino per l’aria nel sacchetto di plastica che ci avevano infilato sulla testa. E’ come se qualcuno fosse sceso dallo schermo come nella Rosa purpurea del Cairo e avesse cominciato a lanciare i popcorn, e tutti si fossero accorti di essere al cinema, e che il film non è la realtà.

As an anti-fascist in my bones, I would never never never imagined it could happen… But since Fini has started speaking out loud, I feel like someone has practiced a hole for air in the plastic bag they had flipped on our heads. As if somebody jumped down from the screen like in the Purple rose of Cairo and started throwing popcorns, and everybody realized they were at the movies, and not in reality.

L’unica cosa che può risollevarmi dall’esito delle elezioni è che ieri ho visto le prove per la copertina del mio libro. Per un attimo è stata la cosa più bella del mondo.

The one thing that can lift my spirit after the outcome of our elections is that yesterday I saw the proofs for the cover of my book. For one split second it was the most beautiful thing in the world.

Nel caso nessuno se ne fosse accorto, a Milano la gente sta talmente male che si prende a pugni anche per un parcheggio.  Ma è perché stia così male, che nessuno si chiede mai.

Just in case nobody had realized that Milan is a place where people are so sick that they would even punch each other for a parking place. But it is the why they are so sick, that nobody ever wonders.
