La bella e la bestia

prima di lasciarvi per il fine settimana. Volevo postarvi qualcosa di forte e chiaro; qui sta diluviando da ore e ore, ed è una giornata molto difficile a causa del comportamento inqualificabile del nostro governo. Rosso sta per la vergogna che proviamo, per la forza che auguro al padre di Eluana, per la dignità umana che questi politici prepotenti credono di poter calpestare, per lo spirito con cui le cose dovranno prima o poi cambiare, e per l’energia che noi ci metteremo. Si dice a volte che  le cose sono più scure che mai appena prima di tornare alla luce.

cose dolci: buon compleanno Susannah (e a proposito, belle foto dell’Inghilterra sotto la neve), stasera i Massimo Volume suonano in diretta sulle nostre frequenze, domani potete sentire Howe Gelb dei Giant Sand dal vivo da N, e io mi leggerò Netherland di Joseph O’Neill.

before leaving you for the weekend. I wanted to post something strong and bright; today its’ been pouring with rain for hours on end, and it’s a very difficult day because of the unspeakable behaviour of our government. Red is for the shame we feel, for the strenght I wish for Eluana’s father, for the human dignity these high-handed politicians think they can trample down, for the spirit that will have to change things sooner or later, and for the energy that we’ll put in change. Sometimes it is said that things are at their darkest right before coming back to light.

Decisamente non il fine settimana che auspicavo, comunque qualcosa ho combinato, fra leggere Bill Bryson, Perec e Richard Yates, pranzare in compagnia e studiare parecchio per una diretta importante domani e una bella serata giovedì. Il più raggiante di tutti per l’atmosfera domestica, la B, dormiglione e mammone senza vergogna. Buona settimana a tutti, domani è Storia…

Surely not the weekend I was wishing for, anyway something I did, amongst reading Bryson, Perec and Richard Yates, sharing lunch with a friend and studying really hard for an important broadcast live tomorrow and a very nice night on Thursday. The beamiest for the homely atmosphere, the B, unashamedly sleepyhead and mummy’s boy. Have a great week everyone, tomorrow is History…

I giorni di festa sono stati preziosi, soffici, colmi di libri e di belle facce di amici. Sto riflettendo su un paio di cose che ho letto in questi giorni e ve le posto domani. Nel frattempo questa qui sopra è, di nuovo, un’altra parte per il tutto (che dimostra che ogni colore che usiamo è uno strenuo tentativo di imitare quelli, fenomenali, che si trovano in natura), grazie alla B, che d’inverno assume l’aria di uno che si è improvvisamente ricordato di discendere da una lunga stirpe reale di crudeli cacciatori, cosa che probabilmente è anche vera. La squisita Keri Smith ha postato sulla nostra intervista e potete perfino ascoltarla, in originale, qui. Vi è mai capitato che qualcuno che volevate conoscere si sia rivelato anche meglio di quello che vi aspettavate?

Holidays were precious, soft and full of books and beautiful friendly faces. I’m thinking over a couple of things I have been reading these days and I’ll post about it tomorrow. In the meantime, here above, once again a part for the whole (proving that all colors we use are a strenuous try to imitate those, phenomenal, that are found in nature), courtesy of the B; during winter he takes on this air of having suddenly remembered to be coming from a long royal lineage of cruel hunters, which is probably true, too.
