E’ ufficiale, ho una grande notizia da darvi: il mio libro, che si intitola Nativo Americano – la voce folk di Bruce Springsteen, uscirà il 15 settembre per Feltrinelli. Se siete fan di Bruce, o vi interessa uno sguardo un po’ particolare su quello che fa, o vi interessano la cultura e la politica degli Stati Uniti, da metà settembre lo troverete in libreria. Se avete voglia di venire al festival “10 giorni suonati” al Castello di Vigevano,  lo presento in anteprima il 22 luglio alle 19 nell’ambito degli Aperitivi con l’autore, l’ingresso è gratuito, le segrete del castello sono fresche e leggerò un’anticipazione, siete i benvenuti.

It’s now official, I’ve got big news: my book, which is called Nativo Americano – la voce folk di Bruce Springsteen, is published by Feltrinelli and it’s going to hit bookstores on Sept 15. If you’re Bruce fans, or you’re interested in a different look at what he does, or you’re interested in American politics and culture, then you might give it a try :) First preview and reading on July 22nd@7 pm, at Vigevano castle.

La B ha passato bene la sua visita annuale, stavolta con un po’ più di caos del solito – ha soffiato selvaggiamente alla povera assistente del veterinario, spaventandola a morte. Immagino che ne sia uscito col suo (enorme) orgoglio intatto. Dopo, a casa, gli è venuta sete. Come al solito, con due ciotole e un bicchiere pieni d’acqua a disposizione, ha scelto di bere dal vaso dei fiori.

The B passed his annual medical with a little bit more turmoil than expected – he savagely hissed at the young inexperienced vet help, scaring her out of her wits. I guess he walked out with his (huge) pride intact. Afterwards, at home, he was thirsty. As usual, with two bowls of water and a glassful ready for him, he chose to drink from the flower vase instead.

Sono un po’ indietro con tutto, e grossi smottamenti si muovono nella mia anima, così grandi che riesco a malapena ad afferrarli. Sto lavorando, bloggando , twittando, scrivendo, leggendo, traducendo, amando, cercando di tenermi al passo con gli amici (e fallendo), ma il grosso sta accadendo a un livello onirico, grandi e tonde ondate di emozione e di scoperta che mi mandano gambe all’aria e mi stanno cambiando. Spero. Perché voglio cambiare, ed è ora.

I’m kind of behind with everything, and huge landslips are happening in my soul, so large I can barely grasp them. I’m working, blogging, tweeting, writing, reading, translating, loving, trying to keep up with friends (and failing), but most of it is happening at a dreamy level, big round waves of emotion and discovery that flip me upside down and leave me changed. I hope. Because I want to change, and it’s time.

Come potete vedere, la B non si fa problemi a mostrare il suo disgusto quando lavoro alle bozze del libro. E’ rimasto poco tempo, e lui si trasforma in un gatto di pietra, peso 1 tonnellata circa, inamovibile nella sua silenziosa protesta ghandiana. Se sul tavolo ci sono 4 o 5 pile di fogli, lui sa esattamente qual’è quella che mi serve di più, e ci si siede sopra. Se cerco di cacciarlo, fa le fusa e si attacca con gli artigli ai post-it che spuntano dalle pagine.

As you can see, the B has no trouble showing his utter dislike for my working on the book proofs. While time is running out, he can turn into a stone cat, weighing about a ton, umoveable in silent Ghandi protest. If there’s 4 or 5 piles of paper on my table, he knows exactly which is the one I need most, and sits on that. If I try to shoo him away, he purrs and clutches the post-it notes sprouting from the pages.

Certe volte c’è una tale luce che m’innamoro di tutto da capo.

Sometimes the light is such that I fall in love with everything all over again.

La posizione preferita dalla B in questi giorni di pioggia (trovo che esprima bene il concetto di “stare in campana”).

Ieri gita alla Venaria Reale (To), potete vedere i panorami a 360° qui: giardini a perdita d’occhio fino alle pendici del Gran Paradiso, la Sala Grande da togliere il fiato, la Citroniera con l’allestimento di vecchi ulivi e il teatrino, le Scuderie del Juvarra… Un solo giorno fuori da Milano sembra una vacanza di una settimana.

Il vulcano è dappertutto. I glicini stanno fiorendo. Mi sono presa un po’ di tempo per me, assaporando la quiete e la calma dopo quello che sembra tanto tanto tempo. Domani sarà pronta la nuova lista dei libri.

The volcano is everywhere. Wysteria blooming all around the place. Took some time for myself, enjoying the quiet and stillness after what seems like a long long time. Tomorrow the new book list will be ready.
