La bella e la bestia

Come state tutti? E’ stata un po’ vacanza, qui, tempo per cene con amici e bambini e gatti sonnacchiosi, e ora si torna a lavorare. Ho letto un po’ (Home di Marylinne Robinson), e visto qualche film che mi ero persa (Burn after reading dei Coen, e Sogni e delitti di Woody Allen). Mettiamola così, c’è tempo per fare rock e c’è tempo di zuppa, e adesso è tempo di zuppa.

How are you guys? A little holiday here, time for dinner with friends and kids and napping cats, and now back to work. I have been reading (Home by Marylinne Robinson) and watching movies I had missed  (The Coens’ Burn after reading and Woody Allen’s Cassandra’s dream). Let’s put it this way, there’s a time for the rock gig and a time for soup, and now is the time for soup.

Sono giorni di strane coincidenze e sincronismi. Fra queste, la rivelazione della fotografia dei film di John Cassavetes che sto riguardando. Da ragazza non ci capivo niente, ci vedevo solo i “cassavetismi” che tanti hanno poi cercato di imitare, e invece c’è del genio puro. Gena Rowlands in Una moglie è un drago di bravura, e la fotografia è come la sto cercando. Ogni inquadratura solo luce naturale, piani ravvicinati, tanta profondità di campo, il bokeh che cambia con ogni singolo movimento – la lingua dell’amore.

Strange coincidences and synchronicities these days. Among these, the revelation I got from the photography in John Cassavetes’ films, which I’m re-watching. As a girl I didn’t get it, I could only spot the “cassavetisms” that many have then tried to imitate, but here there’s pure genius. Gena Rowlands in A woman under the influence is a dragon of acting mastery, and the photography is exactly what I am seeking. Every frame is pure natural light, close-ups, huge depth of field, bokeh changing with every movement – the language of love.
