La bella e la bestia

Il riposo della tigre, dopo il grande sforzo di giocare, inseguirmi mentre pulisco il frigorifero, sdraiarsi sulla tastiera mentre cerco di tradurre. E’ così sfacciatamente contento che io sia a casa. E sono contenta anch’io.

The tiger’s rest, after the great tiredness of playing, chasing after me while I’m cleaning the fridge, and stretching on the keyboard as I’m trying to work on a translation. He’s so unashamedly happy that I’m home. And I’m happy too.

Due racconti di caccia al tesoro: un gruppo di turisti sul tram che ci interrogavano cartina alla mano sugli indizi nascosti più strani di Milano, e la splendida festa per la caccia alle uova di Pasqua che ha organizzato F. per i bambini. Ogni giorno dovrebbe essere così.

Two tales of treasure hunts: a group of tourists on a tram that questioned us, map in hand, on the strangest clues hidden in Milano, and the wonderful party of Easter eggs hunting that F organized for the kids. Every day should be like this.

Queste panchine di via Margutta sono suppergiù dei tempi di Michelangelo. Come tutti i bordi di pietra e gli scalini di Roma, hanno gli spigoli smussati dall’usura. Sopra, la vite. Sedetevi qui con qualcuno che amate. C’è tutto un mondo di cose da dirsi.

The shortest darkest day, which means light will start pouring in again starting from tomorrow. Ancient cultures started celebrating the winter solstice much earlier than the celebration of Xmas, and the heart of the white season was often represented by a golden baby of light.

Oggi mi sento così dolce che giuro che potrei essere raccolta e mangiata in un cucchiaio.

Today I feel so sweet I swear I could be lifted and eaten with a spoon.

Oggi propenderei per una passeggiata nel freddo e un tè a lume di candela.

Ho avuto un tuffo al cuore. Nonostante cascate martellanti di pioggia ghiacciata, sono corsa indietro a scattare questa foto.

My heart leaped. Despite being pummelled by sheets of icy rain, I had to run back and take this picture.

M., che è stato cruciale per la mia scrittura, adesso  sta leggendo il mio libro mentre scrive le canzoni per il nuovo album.

Ok, sono tornata. Cioè, non tornata tanto per dire, ma tornata che ho fatto la spesa, che ho visto gli amici e il mio figlioccino, che posso fare le coccole alla B, che ho girato per negozi (tre conversazioni carine e zero acquisti, un buon bilancio per Milano sul piano di solito assai carente della conversazione di strada), che ho ripreso a leggere, che sto spalando blog per Alaska, che non ho drammatiche trasferte in vista, che devo occuparmi di banalità quotidiane, che posso dedicarmi un po’ meglio a questo blog che mi mancava molto. Troppa azione e troppa poca riflessione in questi giorni, mentre il tempo invece chiama al raccoglimento.

Ok, I’m back. That is to say, I’m really really back, back to shopping for groceries, back to seeing my friends and my tiny godson, back to cuddling up with the B, back to touring local shops (balance: 3 nice conversations and zero purchases – so much for the usual wanting in terms of casual conversation in Milan), back to reading books, back to shoveling blogs for Alaska, back to not having dramatic transfers in sight, back to dull daily things, back to more attention to this blog that I really missed. Too much action and too little reflection these days, while the weather instead calls for contemplation.
